Why I’m running

I believe that our nation and our world need new laws to govern technology, including self-driving cars, delivery drones, social networks, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning.  I have over 20 years of experience in technology, having worked in large companies like YouTube, Google and Amazon, as well as small startups. I have been a Vice President of Engineering at YouTube for several years, working on AI and machine learning.  Neither Google nor YouTube endorses my candidacy, and if I am elected, I will resign my employment at YouTube.

I earned a Bachelor’s degree in math and computer science from Cornell University, a Master’s degree in math from UCSB, and I was a Ph.D. student in mathematical logic at UC Berkeley.

I believe that government can be good, and that good government can be great.  I believe that more people should be willing to serve as elected officials, and I want to set a positive example by running for office myself.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles and I moved to the Bay Area after college in 1991.  My wife and our four children have lived in Burlingame since 2001. We love this area, and we’ve been happy to support the Burlingame Public schools and local candidates.

I would be honored to represent California’s 14th district in the House of Representatives.
